NTOMA / TANZANIA

Tanzania is a country in East Africa. A population of approx. 67 Million (2023 estimate) speaks more than 100 different languages and dialects. The capital of Tanzania is Dodoma, but the de-facto seat of the government is in Dar es Salaam, which is the country’s largest city. In the Northwest of Tanzania is the Serengeti, one of the best-known national parks in Africa. Wet and dry savannahs with acacias and baobab trees are the dominating landscape, surrounded by semi-desert and coastal areas. The climate is tropical. In the northeast, close to the Kenyan border, lies the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, with the highest peak of 5,895 m (19,341 ft) above sea level
.

Tanzania has experienced a high population growth. The birth rate is 4.8 per woman. Since 44% of the population are under the age of 15, a continued large increase in the growth of the population is to be expected. There are over 1.3 million orphans in Tanzania, many of them as a result of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa, as well as the lack of available medical care in general.

Ntoma is in the northwest of Tanzania in the region of Kanyangereko on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, south of the city of Bukoba. Ntoma lies approx. 22 miles (35 km) from the border to Uganda in the north and approx. 62 miles (100km) from Ruanda in the west.  Ntoma itself is a cluster of small hut villages covering an area of approx. 11.5 square miles (30 sq km)
